The Value of Antenatal Ultrasonography in Detection of Congenital Anomalies

Abstract
A retrospective analysis for the value of antenatal ultrasonography in detection of congenital anomalies was made in 34 cases with congenital anomalies among 3,809 cases of deliveries from April 1990 to May 1993 at Dong-A University Hospital. The
overall detection rate of congenital anomalies by antenatal ultrasonography was 44.1%, but the detection rate in the first trimester was zero. These data suggested that ultrasonography seems to have little value as means of detecting for
congenital
anomalies in the first trimester, but is an important diagnostic tool as the targeted examination for congenital anomalies in central nervous system and gastrointestinal system.
